Nearly
200 industry professionals participated in Wednesday's
OPGMA SummerTour & Field Day. The activities began
at Bauman Orchards in Rittman. Attendees visited with
the 25 exhibitors who displayed their newest equipment,
packaging, chemicals, and services.
Participants
took wagon tours through Bauman Orchards. Speakers
along the tour discussed disease research, the peach
crop, tree training strategies, irrigation, Bauman's
retail market, and their fruit grading and storage
systems. At lunch OPGMA president Bob Jones hosted
a brief welcome session and Ohio State's Diane Miller
provided a fruit crop damage update.
Following
lunch, attendees were welcome to tour the Don Ramseyer
Potato Farm in Smithville. There participants learned
about potato production and saw the equipment used
in the operation. Just down the road at Ramseyer Farms
in Wooster attendees learned about educational corn
mazes and other agritainment activities.
OPGMA
would like to thank the hosts, exhibitors, sponsors,
and attendees.
