2012 OPGMA Congress Highlights

OPGMA Congress – Food for Thought
Nearly 850 produce growers and marketers visited the all-industry trade show and attended more than 40 educational sessions offered last week at the 2012 OPGMA Congress in Sandusky, Ohio. The Kalahari Convention Center was the site for this three-day event which included education focused on food safety, vegetables, tree fruit, small fruit, marketing, business management, disease and insect management, and more.

Plus, this year's Congress featured a special keynote presentation by world renowned, international marketing expert John Stanley, "Making Food Safety Work for You & Your Wallet.”

Dr. Bobby Moser, the Vice President for Agricultural Education at The Ohio State University, received the OPGMA Distinguished Service Award for his contributions to the industry and support of the association.

Three industry professionals were re-elected to the OPGMA board of directors. Aaron Buurma, Buurma Farms, Willard, Ohio; Ken Holthouse, Doug Walcher Farms, North Fairfield, Ohio; and Roger Maurer, Maurer Farms, Wooster, Ohio, will serve a three-year term. Lisa Schacht, Schacht Family Farm, Canal Winchester, Ohio, was re-elected from the board to serve as president; Mike Hirsch, Hirsch Fruit Farm, Chillicothe, Ohio, was elected vice president; and Kerry Sullivan, Jacquemin Farms, Plain City, Ohio, was elected Secretary/Treasurer. Dick Wander, Lynd Fruit Farm, Pataskala, Ohio, will continue as past president on the board.

The 2013 OPGMA Congress will be January 21-23 at the Kalahari Resort & Convention Center in Sandusky, Ohio.
